Donald Trump's campaign has been in headlines since the real estate tycoon announced his presidential bid in June 2015. Many believed Trump's campaign would never come to fruition—nevertheless have a chance at victory. However, less than a year later, Trump is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination. Despite his prejudicial remarks against Mexicans and Muslims in particular, Trump supporters continue to stand behind him.
Last night, protestors assembled outside an arena at the University of Chicago in light of violent events connected to Trump rallies. Just the night before, a Trump supporter sucker-punched protester at North Carolina rally. Just several days before, video surfaced of Trump supporters heckling a Black Lives Matter protestor at a Kentucky rally.
As protestors assembled inside and outside the arena, tempers flared between the two sides. Pushing and shoving between the groups escalated to physical altercations and a scene that law enforcement deemed as unsafe to the public. As a result, the rally was shut down.
Trump's negative rhetoric towards Muslims and Mexicans have sparked numerous protests at his rallies. Protestors have been heckled, physically attacked and escorted out of his rallies that are open supporters of any political background. Trump has even ordered security to kick protestors out and has encouraged violence against anyone interrupting his rallies. Videos of these attacks have surfaced all over the web. Still, Trump's momentum only seems to increase.
While Trump addressed the incident this morning tweet, we want to also hear from you.
