In May, Sheff G had one of the most impactful debuts in Brooklyn's underground scene with the instant classic "No Suburban." Shortly thereafter, Corey Finesse was featured on the remix and provided Brooklyn with a summer anthem. Several videos in, the young artist is back with "Panic," shot by Haitian Picasso. Let us know what you think. Is this another instant classic for Sheff?
In just the last year, 22Gz has become one of the most recognizable faces in Brooklyn's underground rap scene. 22's music personifies the evolution of hip-hop in New York City and as one of youngest artists leading the charge, he has the uncanny ability to paint vivid pictures of the city while maintaining an entertaining sound for listeners to enjoy.
Important components in 22's song making ability are: his flow and delivery. Not only does 22 start his verse with triplets on "Flexin," but he also speeds up his flow halfway into his verse. "Flexin" is quite possibly one of 22's most complex verses to date, as it showcases his versatility and ability to master several different flows.
Despite his age, 22 has a commanding presence. His unique voice and cadence is on full display in "Regular" Ft. Zanotti & Suavee Jew. Not only is 22 responsible for the hook, but he also carries the vibe of the track. In fact, 22 might be one of the few young artists from the city that can make you want to dance to such gritty lyrics. Thus, 22 has become a fan favorite as he sets the tone on tracks despite collaborating with others.
Last year, 22 released the hood anthem Blicky Ft. Nas Blicky & NiikoSuav, and he continued to drop hit after hit. Now, he's back with arguably his biggest song to date "Suburban." The single is at almost 500,000 views on YouTube, and has no features. In 2016, 22Gz averaged at least 100,000 views in every video he was in, and as his buzz continues to grow, we're excited to see what the future holds for him this year. Check out the video above and let us know what you think.
Abillyon is one of New York's most promising young talents. His style has shaped the city's sound in the last two years and as a result, he has become one of the most influential artists in the game. "Trap Soul" is the most effective way to categorize his music and needless to say, Abillyon's hooks and melodies are second to none. Not only can he sing, but Abillyon is one of the best young lyricists in the city (see below for his freestyle on Sway in the Morning).
Abillyon first caught the city's attention with "I Love My Squad" Ft. Bobby Shmurda on GS9's debut project Shmoney Shmurda in 2014. He released I'm Still Around in the summer of 2015 and had the underground hit "Ma Cherie (You was Callin' me)."
Alongside TTG Ent., Abillyon and Corey Finesse dropped Shmasterminds at the top of the year. Abillyon is back with another smash and it samples "Every Little Thing I Do" by Soul 4 Real. See below as Abillyon teams up with one of Brooklyn's most famed boutiques, Vinnie Styles, for the visuals to "Got It On Deck."
"Being broke I had to feel that
Stomach growling I wasn't eating
Couldn't party on the weekend." -Dula

"I don't see nobody in my lane and that's for sure
They won't to see it till we shinnin' but can't blame them
They don't know, They don't know, They don't know." - Jay'More
Be sure to also check out Jay'More's EP "GroundWork," and the visual for "Ground Work (Intro)," below.
Preston's following is built off authenticity and his fanbase grows as he continues to flood the streets. Preston locked down the underground scene in just a few short months and his spins on Hot 97 and Power 105.1 have cemented his impact on the evolution of NY's trap scene. With songs like "Reading Everywhere," "10 Humz God Commandments" and "05 - 25 - 500," Preston's music has become the soundtrack for the streets and we'll be watching to see what he does next. In the mean time, watch his new video for his hit single "The Lit Carlton." Don't forget you heard it here first on #TheCulturePlug.
